Any Master Mason in good standing in a Lodge recognized by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. Your Lodge does not have to be in Pennsylvania. If you are not yet a Mason, visit BeAFreemason.org to learn how to begin.

No. The Master Mason degree is the highest degree in Freemasonry. The Scottish Rite degrees (4th through 32nd) build on the lessons of the Symbolic Lodge and expand on them through allegory and drama.

There's nothing to memorize. The degrees are staged as dramas, with costumes, scenery, and lighting. Each one teaches a moral or philosophical lesson that builds on what you learned in the Blue Lodge.

A Reunion is a day when the Valley confers degrees on a class of candidates, with fellowship and a meal. See our Reunions, ROTR & Events page for the next date.

A candidate must believe in a Supreme Being. No one is excluded because of his particular religion.

The degrees are conferred at a Reunion, and many candidates receive the 32° at a single Reunion.

Yes. Membership in the Scottish Rite requires that you remain a Master Mason in good standing in your Symbolic Lodge.

The NMJ oversees the Scottish Rite in 15 states across the Northeast and Midwest. It is headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts.

A Valley is the local home of the Scottish Rite. It is made up of four bodies: the Lodge of Perfection (4° to 14°), the Council of Princes of Jerusalem (15° to 16°), the Chapter of Rose Croix (17° to 18°), and the Consistory (19° to 32°).

Degrees are conferred at every Reunion, so you can see any you missed at a future one. Some degrees are also shown by video.

The NMJ's signature charity is the Scottish Rite Children's Dyslexia Centers, which offer free tutoring to children with dyslexia.

The 33° is an honorary degree conferred by the Supreme Council for outstanding service to Freemasonry or the community. It cannot be applied for.

It is a service group of 32° Masons who assist at Reunions and Valley events and serve as ambassadors of the Rite.

Yes. Any Master Mason in good standing may petition the Valley of Philadelphia, wherever he lives.

Yes. The Valley holds social and family events throughout the year, in addition to degree work.
